It seems to me that a lot of the questions I answer can easily be answered if the person just typed their question into an internet search engine…

I don’t bother answering those types of questions because it’s, practically, common knowledge – since it’s on the internet; it’s in the public domain.

What I don’t get, though, is why people Ask Questions here on YA instead of just putting the same, usually less, effort into finding out the answers themselves.

Can someone give me an explanation as to why people would choose to not bother finding out themselves and just be told the answer, apart from laziness or plain bone-idleness?

And why do people not choose a best answer to the question they’ve asked when there is obviously one already.
I try not to vote for myself if there’s a better answer in case, at the last moment, I need to break a “deadlock” vote.

Don’t you get points back for choosing a best answer?

Perhaps it is just because they got the info and don’t care about YA except for getting quick answers.

Maybe I just answered my own question, but I thought I’d figure it out by asking one when I could’ve just searched the answer myself.

In that case, how about this for a question:

Which do you think is the best way to learn for you?
Points for good explanations, not just a quick “2 pointer” on simply choosing one and stating it…

Best way to learn – RTFI, seeking, trial and error, theory and application.

Explanations of combinations of the above would be exceptional and pro’s and cons would be appreciated.

Remember – this is about you and not about how *I* would learn.
I know that sometimes, to get a best answer, you have to kow-tow to a person’s ideals and give them the answer they want (which is why I try not to answer those types of questions – I kow-tow to no-one and strive to always be frank, honest and direct in my communications and answers).

I’m asking this cos I’m 1 point away from level 4 and I want to get there by a best answer, not by voting or answering a question.

Please answer honestly and willingly. Jokes would be appreciated if you haven’t anything useful to add – maybe something that makes me laugh about learning (since learning is fun) would be best?

And it is fun to answer stupid questions sometimes with a sarcastic or derogatory answer…

Except that it usually means that an account gets deleted and you gotta start over…
I keep a YA tab open on my browser whenever I’m on the computer and it keeps on emailing me questions, as do other people…

It’s a fun distraction.

And as for the levelling – I just wanted to play the game I’ve set myself. That is – proceeding in the best or hardest way possible through any given system.

The game may be a bit of a waste of time, but giving people answers isn’t – I don’t mind my volunteer work with Addicts and people suffering from Suicidal thoughts and / or Depression.

I see answering some of the questions here to be the same type of thing.

If you think helping people out is a waste of time that only people with time to waste do, then you certainly need to re-appraise your view on life, my dear.
